This reminds me of when the guys in the lab decided to dry some chiles on the lyophilizer in the common equipment room. Worked great. I had a picture on my fridge for a long time; wonder where it is.
When they much later had to defrost the machine, the entire equipment room was filled with the fumes as what had been trapped in the ice in the machine was finally released. The room was uninhabitable for a couple of days.

Did it end up moist & chewy or very dry? My family prefers the latter.
